After a couple of cycles, when you and your Safecup have gotten to know each other better you will have a better idea of how often you would need to empty the cup.
The Safecup is the best option for travelling days as it saves you from checking and changing every couple of hours. While travelling, we recommend that you check and empty your cup every 8 hours at least.
Yes you can. Just drain the blood out, rinse the cup with clean water and insert it again. Incase you do not have access to clean water, you can wipe the cup with an intimate wipe before re-inserting.
Tampons absorb everything other than the blood, and makes you dry. It increases in size and becomes a bit like a brick inside your vagina which may be discomforting to many. Tampons also have lesser less capacity in comparison to menstrual cups.

INSERTION & REMOVAL
You should ideally sterilize the cup on the first day of your cycle before using it and the last day of the cycle before storing it. Incase your period lasts for more than 3 days, we recommend you to sterilize it once during the cycle too.
Head over to our How-To- Use page or download the Ultimate e-book on menstrual cups here to know everything you possibly can about this wonderful experience.
You can sterilize your cup either by boiling it in a vessel on the stove (for 5-7 mins) or by using a sterilizer. The Safecup sterilizer is an electronic sterilizer which both boils and steams your cup all with one button. It also has a protective mesh which ensures that the cup doesn't touch the base. Check out the sterilizer here.
While boiling on the stove, let the water boil first before putting the cup in the vessel. Use a deep vessel and add enough water so that the cup floats. DO not leave the stove idol and make sure the cup does not touch the sides or the bottom of the vessel. Do check out the quicker and hassle-free alternative to boiling here.
Head over to the How-To-Use page to get a detailed understanding of the different folds and positions for insertion.
Wash your hands first before inserting the cup. You can try either of the two most common folds - the C-fold and the Punch Down fold. Click here to know more. You can either squat, sit or put one leg up on the commode to insert the cup comfortably.
Every body is different and hence the most comfortable and effective fold and position differs. However, the most common fold is the Punch Down fold and the most common position is the squatting pose.
If you just woke up or if you were sitting for too long then i would recommend you to move around the house or wherever you are for 10 min so that cup slides down a little. Once that is done -Try squatting down and push the cup from your pelvic muscle (how you would deliver a baby). Once you do that you will be able to feel the tip of the stem DONT PULL IT FROM THE STEM. Pinch the base of the cup and then pull it out. Once you pinch it the air holes on the cup will leave the suction and the cup will easily slide out. Just remember to relax. Don't panic and don't give up .
Cups may leak because of either of the following reasons:
1. You cup hasn't opened up properly. This could be because of the fold or the size not being right
2. If your cup is nearly full, the weight of the filled cup may reduce the suction which may cause a leakage
3. If there are water particles on the outer surface of your cup, a suction may not be created properly
4. If air holes aren't cleaned properly a suction may not be formed and the cup may shift down
Not all women hear the pop sound of their cup opening inside. You should check if your cup has opened properly by inserting your index finger and pressing the sides of the cup to check if it has opened properly. You can softly tug at the base of the cup to see if the suction has been freated. If it comes down easily then it hasn't been inserted properly. If you face some resistance then it has been inserted perfectly.
No, the stem of the cup should not stick out. This means that either the cup hasn't been inserted properly or the size is wrong. Stems which stick out can poke you while walking or sitting.
The cup cannot remain stuck inside forever. You need to calm down and relax. Relaxing helps loosen the muscles in your vagina which in turn helps the cup to be removed easily. Incase you just wake up, try moving around the house for 10 minutes so that the cup slides down a little. Try squatting down and push the cup with the help of your pelvic muscles. Once you do that, you will be able to feel the tip of the stem. DO NOT PULL YOUR CUP OUT FROM THE STEM. Pinch the base of the cup to break the suction and then slowly remove the cup. Just remember to relax. Do not panic nor give up :)
You can easily go to the washroom with your cup inserted. It will not affect your bowl or urinary movements. Although a few women may feel the need to remove if to feel more comfortable and be mentally relaxed.
If you're wearing the cup during your periods then you ideally wouldn't require a lubricant. Incase you still want one, opt for a water based lubricant. Oil based or silicon based lubricants aren't good for cups.
Safecup has a specially designed short and rounded stem. Hence we would recommend you not to trim the stem.
No, the vagina won't stretch from using a menstrual cup. The vagina is pretty extraordinary in the sense that the muscle is able to stretch and go right back to its original shape – much like a rubber band. This means that something as small as a menstrual cup or a tampon will not cause it to stretch out.
